Former DMC Boss Left Capcom Before Getting Stuck "Making Devil May Cry 6 Or 7"

Hideaki Itsuno, a renowned video game director and designer, has left Capcom after a three-decade run. Itsuno revealed that one of the primary reasons for his departure was his desire to avoid getting stuck in the cycle of making sequels for the same franchises, particularly Devil May Cry. He felt that the offer from Lightspeed to create a new AAA game was a "last chance" for him to challenge himself. Itsuno expressed that while he enjoys making Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma sequels, the time commitment required makes it difficult to maintain personal satisfaction in the process. Several former Capcom developers from the Devil May Cry and Street Fighter franchises are set to join Lightspeed's second studio in Osaka, Japan, including writer Toshihiro Nakagawa, with whom Itsuno has collaborated for decades. The future of the Devil May Cry franchise remains uncertain, but the Netflix anime series will return for a second season in 2026.
