Warning! Meta will start snooping on your AI chats in its apps in December

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, plans to systematically save and analyze its users' conversations with the company's AI chatbot starting December 16th, 2025. This data will be used to personalize advertising and content, and there will be no option to opt out. The initiative will initially be launched outside the EU and UK, where stricter data protection laws may force a later introduction. Meta emphasizes that sensitive information, such as health, religion, or political views, won't be used for advertising purposes, but the data will still be collected and processed to provide the AI functions. While the new policy is set to come into force globally, the launch date for the EU and UK remains unclear as Meta examines how the changes can be reconciled with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) laws. Users who don't want their AI conversations analyzed by Meta will have to refrain from using the AI chatbot altogether, except for WhatsApp users who can activate chat data protection on a per-chat basis.
