Steam will officially drop support for 32-bit Windows after this year

Valve, the company behind the popular gaming platform Steam, has announced that it will discontinue support for 32-bit versions of Windows as of January 1st, 2026. This decision is driven by the fact that less than 0.01 percent of Steam gamers use 32-bit Windows 10, while all 64-bit versions of Windows will continue to be supported. For users still on Windows 10 32-bit, the installed Steam client will continue to function, but without any updates, security fixes, or technical support. Valve has emphasized that they cannot guarantee the continued functionality of the platform on unsupported systems, as basic components of Steam require drivers and libraries that are no longer compatible with 32-bit environments. This move by Valve is a reflection of the industry's shift towards 64-bit technology, which offers improved performance and security features. The decision is aimed at streamlining the platform's development and ensuring the continued reliability and performance of the Steam service for the vast majority of its users.
