Square Enix Is Shutting Down Two Games A Decade After Their Debut

Square Enix, a major Japanese video game company, has announced the closure of two of its mobile games - Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars - which were launched a decade ago in 2015. The company's decision comes as part of its plan to "reboot" the business over the next three years. Both games will be shut down in Japan on October 31, 2025, and in-app purchases have already been suspended. While Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius was previously shut down outside of Japan last year, Dragon Quest of the Stars was closed internationally in 2021. The closure of these games is part of a larger trend at Square Enix, as the company had also considered shutting down the 23-year-old Final Fantasy XI game last year. However, that decision was ultimately reversed due to the game's ongoing popularity.
