Firefox launches ‘shake to summarize’ on iPhones

Firefox has introduced a new "shake to summarize" feature for iPhone users. This feature, which will be available with the release of iOS 26, will allow users to shake their iPhone 15 Pro or newer to generate an AI-powered summary of the webpage they are viewing. For older iOS versions, Mozilla will use its own cloud-based AI system to create the summaries, which will be displayed at the top of the webpage. Users can also access the summaries by tapping the "thunderbolt" icon in the address bar or the three-dot menu at the bottom of the screen. The feature can be turned off if users do not want the browser to interpret a phone fumble as a summarization request. The "shake to summarize" functionality is limited to webpages with fewer than 5,000 words. Firefox is one of the first major third-party apps to integrate with Apple Intelligence, a feature that may be further discussed during the upcoming iPhone launch event. The "shake to summarize" feature is currently only available in the US and in English, but Mozilla plans to expand it globally and to Android users in the future.
