Wimbledon tennis site expansion can go ahead, high court rules
The High Court has ruled in favor of the Wimbledon tennis site expansion, rejecting the campaign group Save Wimbledon Park's (SWP) call for the decision to be overturned. The expansion plans include the construction of 39 new courts, including an 8,000-seat show court, on the grounds of the old Wimbledon Park golf club. The decision was initially made by the Greater London Authority (GLA) last year, allowing the All England Lawn Tennis Club to almost triple the size of the Wimbledon site. The judicial review, which took place during this year's 138th Wimbledon championship, was initiated by the SWP group, but the High Court has now upheld the original decision, paving the way for the planned expansion to go ahead.
