Netflix is adapting Catan into movies and TV shows

Netflix has announced a partnership with game publisher Asmodee to create new TV shows and films based on the popular board game Catan. The adaptation will include multiple projects in various formats, including competitive reality TV shows, animated series, and live-action narratives. The strategy-focused game, where players collect resources and build a civilization on a remote island, offers "endless opportunities for some serious drama," according to Netflix's head of scripted series for the US and Canada. The projects will be produced by Darren Kyman from Asmodee, Pete Fenlon from Catan Studio, and Guido and Benjamin Teuber, the sons of Catan creator Klaus Teuber. This is not Netflix's first foray into adapting games, as the streaming platform has previously partnered with Asmodee to adapt the game Exploding Kittens. The Catan adaptation joins Netflix's growing list of game-based projects, including a Monopoly adaptation and series based on video games like Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed.
