John Textor teams up with football financier in push to buy Sheffield Wednesday
John Textor, a former shareholder of Crystal Palace, has teamed up with football financier Keith Harris in a bid to acquire Sheffield Wednesday, a crisis-hit English football club. Harris, a former investment banker, has previously brokered takeovers at several Premier League clubs, including West Ham, Manchester City, and Aston Villa. Textor, who was granted exclusivity in his attempt to buy Everton through his investment vehicle, Eagle Football, has now turned his attention to Sheffield Wednesday. The American businessman was not previously working with Harris, but the two got to know each other through Harris's work for Sportsbank, which offered Textor £230m to buy 45% of Eagle. Textor's multi-club operation owns Lyon, Botafogo, and the Belgian club RWD Molenbeek, and was the biggest shareholder at Crystal Palace until selling to Woody Johnson last month.
