ICE is planning to establish a 24/7 social media surveillance team to gather leads on wanted individuals, according to documents obtained by Wired. The team will scour platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube to develop leads, with a 30-minute response time for "urgent cases" involving the agency's Top 10 Most Wanted. The team will also work on lower-priority cases, such as those involving non-violent misdemeanors or individuals with a significant arrest history, with an eight-hour response window. ICE is looking to hire at least 12 full-time staff for its National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center in Vermont and 16 full-time contractors for its Pacific Enforcement Response Center in California, with a rotating duty schedule. The plans are in the early stages, and ICE has expressed interest in using artificial intelligence to achieve its goals, despite previous controversies over the agency's use of facial recognition technology.
