Microsoft debuts its first in-house AI image generator

Microsoft has unveiled its first internally-developed AI image generation model, MAI-Image-1, reducing its reliance on its long-standing partnership with OpenAI. The new model is particularly adept at creating photorealistic results, with a focus on natural lighting and landscapes. Microsoft plans to integrate MAI-Image-1 into its Bing Image Creator and Copilot platforms in the near future. This release follows the company's introduction of two other in-house AI models, MAI-Voice-1 and MAI-1-preview, over the summer. The move is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to expand its AI capabilities and reduce its dependence on external partners, as the company has outlined a significant five-year roadmap for its AI division.
