Councils’ temporary housing costs to more than double by 2029-30, says LGA

According to the Local Government Association (LGA), the cost for councils in England to provide temporary housing for homeless people is expected to more than double, reaching almost £4 billion by 2029-30. The LGA's analysis shows that since 2017-18, local authorities have spent nearly £1.5 billion more on temporary accommodation than they have received in housing benefit reimbursement from the government. The rising costs highlight the increasing strain on councils to address the growing homelessness crisis in the country.
