Premier League proposals for spending rules face growing opposition

The Premier League is facing growing opposition to its proposal for new spending rules, which include capping clubs' spending on player wages, transfers, and agent fees at 85% of their revenue. Additionally, the league plans to introduce an "anchoring" rule that would limit a club's spending to about five times the income of the bottom club in the league. This element of the proposal has been likened to a salary cap and is thought to be in jeoparary. The league is confident of gaining the clubs' backing for the overall squad cost ratio rules, but the anchoring aspect is facing resistance, with four clubs voting against the proposal last year. The Premier League will try to finalize the details of the new spending rules at its first shareholders' meeting of the season on Tuesday.
