Western United to sit out 2025-26 A-League season with club put into ‘hibernation’
Western United, an A-League club, has been temporarily placed in "conditional hibernation" and will sit out the 2025-26 season. The decision was made by the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) due to ongoing uncertainty over the club's viability. The league, other clubs, and players were unable to prepare for the upcoming season with "necessary clarity" due to the uncertainty surrounding Western United. As a result, the current playing group has been allowed to seek alternative employment during the one-year pause in the club's operations.
