Chris Wilder appointed Sheffield United manager for third time with goal of promotion

Chris Wilder has been appointed as the new manager of Sheffield United, marking his third stint with the club. The 57-year-old takes over a team that is currently bottom of the Championship, having lost all five of their league matches. Wilder's previous spell as manager ended just three months ago, following a playoff defeat to Sunderland. However, the club has now turned to him again, with promotion remaining the ambition for the season. Sheffield United are nine points off the playoffs and 13 behind the league leaders, Middlesbrough, after a 5-0 loss to Ipswich on Friday, which led to the dismissal of previous manager Rubén Sellés. Wilder has been given a contract until 2027, as the club looks to him to steer them back towards the promotion places in the Championship.
