NBC Really Wants To Make Its Own Wordle Show - Report

NBC is reportedly developing a game show based on the popular online word puzzle game Wordle. The show will be hosted by Savannah Guthrie and executive produced by Jimmy Fallon, who has expressed his "addiction" to the game. The project is a collaboration between Fallon's Electric Hot Dog company, Universal Television Alternative Studio, and The New York Times, which acquired Wordle in 2022. The daily puzzle game has become a cultural phenomenon, with 5.3 billion games played in 2022, up from 4.8 billion the previous year. The report suggests that the NBC show is still in the pilot stage and faces several hurdles before it can be approved for airing. Interestingly, CBS already has a Wordle-like game show called Lingo, which premiered in 2024 and has been renewed for future seasons. Lingo is a revival of a game show that first aired in the 1980s.
