Vodafone is testing an AI 'actor' to sell its products instead of paying a human to do it

Vodafone, a major global brand, has created a commercial featuring an AI avatar posing as a real person to sell its products. This experiment is part of the company's effort to test different styles of advertising using AI technology. The commercial, however, reveals obvious tells of its AI nature, such as the avatar's slightly off hair, physical mannerisms, and a moving facial mole, which suggests that the technology is not yet perfected. Vodafone's decision to use an AI actor instead of a real person has sparked some controversy, as the company acknowledges that AI is becoming increasingly prevalent in everyday life, including in advertising. This is not the first time Vodafone has used generative AI in its advertising, as the company released a fully AI-generated commercial last year, which also received some backlash.
