PGA of America president belatedly admits US Ryder Cup fans ‘crossed line’ with abuse

The PGA of America president, Don Rea Jr., has issued an apology for the behavior of US Ryder Cup fans during the recent event. Initially, Rea had dismissed the abuse directed at European players and their wives as no worse than at a youth soccer game. However, in a letter to PGA of America members, Rea acknowledged that the fan behavior "clearly crossed the line" and was "disrespectful, inappropriate, and not representative of who we are as the PGA of America or as PGA of America golf professionals." Rea condemned the behavior unequivocally and admitted that the European players and their wives were subjected to verbal abuse.
