Disco Elysium Studio ZA/UM Gets First Recognized Workers Union In UK Games Industry
Developers at the independent studio ZA/UM, the creators of the acclaimed RPG Disco Elysium, have formed the first recognized workers union in the UK games industry. The union, recognized by the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB), will give employees the means to negotiate workplace-related matters such as mental health, financial stability, and social livelihoods. This milestone is seen as an "exciting" development that could inspire other game developers in the UK to follow suit and collectively bargain for better working conditions. ZA/UM will elect a committee of workplace representatives to discuss the team's concerns with the support of the IWGB. The studio has also announced its next project, an espionage RPG titled Zero Parades, set to launch in 2023.
