Activision has acknowledged that some Call of Duty fans perceive the series has "drifted" from its identity. In response, the company announced that Black Ops 7 will not allow players to transfer characters, weapons, or skins from Black Ops 6, indicating a shift towards a more grounded experience. Activision stated that the developers of Black Ops 7, Treyarch and Raven, have been guided by the goal of making a spiritual successor to Black Ops 2 while taking some "big swings." The company emphasized the need for Black Ops 7 to feel "authentic to Call of Duty and its setting," which is why the Carry Forward feature will not be available. This announcement comes amid the reveal of Battlefield 6, where the developers have stressed that the game's cosmetics will be "grounded," in contrast to the outlandish skins seen in recent Call of Duty titles.
