Warner Bros. Discovery sues Midjourney for generating ‘countless’ copies of its characters

Warner Bros. Discovery is suing Midjourney, an AI startup, for generating and distributing "countless" unauthorized images and videos of its copyrighted characters, including Superman, Bugs Bunny, and Scooby-Doo. The lawsuit alleges that Midjourney is "brazenly" using Warner Bros. Discovery's intellectual property without permission and profiting from it. Warner Bros. Discovery claims that Midjourney's AI tools can generate infringing images even without explicit prompts mentioning the characters, and that the company is aware of the "breathtaking scope of its piracy and copyright infringement." The media conglomerate is seeking damages and a court order to prevent Midjourney from further using its intellectual property without proper safeguards. This lawsuit follows similar copyright infringement claims against Midjourney by Disney and Universal.
