Mariners’ Cal Raleigh sets single-season record for catcher with 49th home run

Cal Raleigh, the 28-year-old catcher for the Seattle Mariners, has set a new single-season record for home runs by a catcher, hitting his 49th home run on Sunday against the Athletics. This surpasses the previous record of 48 home runs set by Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals in 2021. Raleigh's record-breaking home run also marked his ninth multi-home run game of the season, breaking the previous record of eight set by Mickey Mantle for the New York Yankees in 1961. Raleigh currently leads the major leagues in home runs this season.
