EA will shut down The Sims Mobile in January
EA will shut down The Sims Mobile, a mobile version of the popular Sims franchise, on January 20, 2023, nearly eight years after its debut in March 2018. The game requires online servers, and as of January 20, it will no longer be possible to play. EA will run 14 events, including limited-time quests and treasure hunts, over the next few months, and players will have unlimited energy and access to all Build Mode and Create A Sim items. The decision to shut down The Sims Mobile comes as EA and Sims studio Maxis announced Project Rene, a new Sims game that will run across multiple platforms, including mobile. The shutdown is disappointing for players, especially those who have spent money on the game, and raises concerns about the future of the Sims franchise if EA's planned sale to a group that includes Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund goes through.
