Waymo will also drive for DoorDash in Phoenix
Waymo, the self-driving car company, has announced a new partnership with DoorDash to offer delivery services in Phoenix, Arizona. This partnership will allow Waymo's self-driving cars to transport goods from DashMart, DoorDash's convenience and grocery store, to local customers. Initially, the delivery service will be limited to DashMart orders, but Waymo and DoorDash plan to expand it to include more local merchants and a wider variety of offerings in the future. Customers will need to opt-in to the autonomous delivery option when placing their order through DoorDash. This is not Waymo's first foray into delivery services. In 2024, the company partnered with Uber Eats for a similar program in Phoenix. Waymo also runs its own robotaxi service, Waymo One, and has previously explored using self-driving long-haul trucks for deliveries, though it abandoned those plans in 2023 to focus on robotaxis and the Waymo Driver software. The new partnership with DoorDash represents Waymo's continued efforts to explore the potential of its self-driving technology in various applications, including delivery services, as it aims to expand its presence in the autonomous vehicle market.
