Ferrari's first EV is coming next year with big speed, big sound and a Jony Ive design

Ferrari, the renowned Italian automaker, is set to unveil its first electric vehicle (EV), the Elettrica, next year. The Elettrica will boast impressive power, with four electric motors that generate over 1,000 horsepower, putting it close to the performance of the company's new F80 supercar. The Elettrica's design will be a departure from previous Ferrari models, as the company has collaborated with design house LoveFrom, led by former Apple executive Jony Ive. The EV will have four doors and four seats, positioning it as a grand tourer or SUV-like model rather than a traditional sports car. Ferrari's engineers have focused on creating a unique and authentic sound for the Elettrica, using an accelerometer to capture the harmonic resonance of the electric motors and amplify it through a digital system. This approach aims to provide an engaging aural experience, unlike the "fake" sounds often associated with electric vehicles. With a range of over 330 miles, the Elettrica is designed to be a practical and comfortable daily driver, while still offering the performance and handling characteristics expected of a Ferrari. The company plans to evolve the Elettrica's battery pack design and chemistry over the years, ensuring the model's longevity and potential for continued development.
