OpenAI's Sora app is real but you'll need an invite to try it
OpenAI has unveiled a new AI-powered social video app called Sora, which allows users to generate AI-made clips of nearly anything. The app's signature "cameo" feature enables users to add their likeness to the generated videos, with the ability to control whether others can use their image. Sora 2, the app's underlying video model, can generate sound alongside video, a first for OpenAI's technology. However, the app has limitations, as it cannot generate videos of public figures unless they grant permission, and it will refuse to create pornographic content. Sora is currently only available on iOS in the US and Canada, and users will need an invite from the company to access the app. Those who are invited can then invite four friends to download the software, similar to the early days of platforms like Bluesky or Clubhouse.
