Google confirms plans to merge Android and ChromeOS, PCs and phones

Google has announced plans to merge its Android operating system with ChromeOS, creating a unified platform for PCs, smartphones, and other devices. The effort, known as "Project Aluminium," aims to combine the strengths of both systems, allowing for a seamless user experience across different device categories. The announcement was made by Google's SVP of Devices and Services, Rick Osterloh, at the Snapdragon Summit 2025. Osterloh stated that in the past, Google has had separate systems for PCs and smartphones, but now they are working to combine the two. This integration will also bring Google's Gemini AI and assistant capabilities to the PC domain, further enhancing the user experience. The merged operating system will likely power Android-based notebooks, utilizing Qualcomm processors. This move towards a single ecosystem for PCs, smartphones, and tablets is expected to provide a more standardized and cohesive user experience, allowing for better integration and collaboration between different devices.
