Lifestyle changes and vaccination ‘could prevent most liver cancer cases’

According to a study by the Lancet Commission on liver cancer, three in five liver cancer cases globally could be prevented through lifestyle changes and increased vaccination. The commission found that most cases were preventable by reducing obesity, alcohol consumption, and levels of viral hepatitis B and C. The report outlines several recommendations for policymakers, which could potentially reduce the incidence of liver cancer by 2% to 5% annually by 2050, preventing 9 million to 17 million new cases and saving 8 million to 15 million lives.
