The FCC just gave itself the power to make a DJI drone ban stick

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has voted 3-0 to give itself the power to retroactively ban gadgets and radio components previously approved for entry into the United States, if the company that makes them is deemed a national security risk. This move is officially aimed at closing loopholes and protecting US networks from potential backdoors in Chinese telecom gear. However, it could also provide the Trump administration a new way to block Chinese consumer electronics, such as those from the drone maker DJI, even without publicly releasing evidence of any security threats. The decision comes less than a month after the US Department of Commerce added DJI to a trade blacklist, citing national security concerns.
