Volkswagen is making UK owners pay extra to unlock ID.3 EV's full potential
Volkswagen is requiring UK customers to pay a monthly subscription or a one-time fee to unlock the full potential of their ID.3 electric vehicles. The automaker is now listing the ID.3 Pro and Pro S models with a lower horsepower rating than what the vehicles are capable of. Customers can pay £16.50 per month or a one-time fee of £649 to activate the full 228 hp (170 kW) capability of the vehicles. This move by Volkswagen is similar to BMW's previous decision to lock features like heated seats and high beams behind subscription fees, which faced significant backlash from users. Volkswagen is offering a free one-month trial for customers to try out the power upgrade before committing to the additional costs.
