Windows 11’s Photos app tests ‘auto-categorization’ of images using AI

Windows 11's Photos app is testing a new feature that uses AI to automatically categorize and sort users' images. The feature, called "Auto-Categorization," can sort photos into pre-defined categories such as receipts, identity documents, screenshots, and notes. The categorization is said to work regardless of the language of the documents in the images. If an image is categorized incorrectly, users can manually correct the mistake. At the moment, the Photos app can only sort images into the four predefined categories, but it's unclear if more categories will be added or if the feature will become customizable in the future. The Auto-Categorization feature is currently available to Windows Insiders using version 2025.11090.25001.0 or later of the Photos app, and is only accessible on Copilot+ PCs. Microsoft has started rolling out the new version of the app to all Windows Insider channels on Windows 11.
