Xbox unveils its Handheld Compatibility Program
Microsoft announced the launch of its new Xbox Ally handheld devices, along with the Handheld Compatibility Program, at Gamescom 2025. The Compatibility Program is similar to Valve's Steam Deck Verified, where Xbox will test and optimize games for compatibility with the Ally handheld devices. Games will be labeled as "Handheld Optimized" if they have default controller inputs, appropriate resolution for full-screen play, and require no or only minor in-game setting adjustments. "Mostly Compatible" games may require minor adjustments for an optimal handheld experience. Additionally, games will receive a "Windows Performance Fit" indicator of either "Should play great" (60 FPS or better) or "Should play well" (30 FPS or better) to predict their performance on the Ally devices. Microsoft will continue to partner with developers to test and optimize games for the Handheld Compatibility Program.
