Foreign criminals convicted in UK to be deported immediately under new plans

The UK government has announced plans to deport foreign criminals immediately after their conviction, rather than waiting until they have served 30% of their sentence. The proposed change in legislation aims to cut costs and prevent these offenders from re-entering the UK. The new measures will apply to most foreign criminals convicted by a UK court and will be implemented as soon as they are incarcerated. The justice secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has stated that this policy will provide a more efficient and effective way of dealing with foreign criminals in the UK.
