Google’s first Gemini smart home speaker detailed in leak

Google is reportedly developing a new smart home speaker called "Gemini," which will come in four color options: bright red, light green, black, and white. The speaker will feature a light around the base rather than across the top, as seen in previous Google speakers, and will have a fabric finish. The key features of the Gemini speaker include the ability to pair with a Google TV Streamer to deliver spatial TV audio, similar to Apple's HomePod integration with Apple TV. It will also include new natural voice options, the ability to detect unusual sounds like glass breaking or a smoke alarm, and full support for the Matter smart home standard. The Gemini speaker will be powered by Google's newly announced Gemini smart home platform, which will be rolling out to existing Nest smart speakers and displays starting in October. Gemini will include a paid subscription tier, though the details of the premium features are still unclear. The report suggests that the Gemini speaker may launch alongside the Gemini for Home platform later this year, though an exact release date is not yet known. Google is also expected to update its Nest Hub line of smart displays in the near future.
