Raducanu’s US Open buildup gathers pace with Washington win over Kostyuk

Emma Raducanu, the British tennis player, has started her buildup towards the upcoming US Open with an impressive straight-sets win over the seventh seed, Marta Kostyuk, at the DC Open in Washington. Raducanu, who had last played a singles match at Wimbledon, where she stretched the world No 1, Aryna Sabalenka, in the third round, held off the Ukrainian world No 27 in a gruelling encounter, winning 7-6 (4), 6-4. The match was closely contested, with both players struggling on serve in the 71-minute opening set. They traded early breaks before Raducanu eventually edged into a tie-break, which she won despite surrendering a 4-0 lead. Additionally, the article mentions that fellow British player, Cameron Norrie, has also reached the men's last 16 at the same tournament after seeing off Lorenzo Musetti.
