Ex-Canucks First-Rounder Signs In Slovakia

Former Vancouver Canucks first-round draft pick Jake Virtanen has signed a one-year contract with Dukla Michalovce, a club in the Slovak Extraliga. Virtanen, a 28-year-old Canadian winger, was selected sixth overall by the Canucks in the 2014 NHL Draft. He played five seasons with the Canucks, scoring 55 goals and adding 45 assists in 346 games. Virtanen's time in the NHL was marked by off-ice controversies, and he was released by the Canucks in 2021.
