Microsoft tests AI-powered file search in Windows 11 with Copilot
Microsoft is testing new AI-powered features for the Copilot app in Windows 11. The first feature is semantic file search, which allows users to search for files using natural language instead of exact keywords or file names. For instance, users can search for "find my CV" to locate their résumé documents or "find images of bridges at sunset on my PC" to find relevant photos. The semantic file search feature will be available only on Copilot+ PCs, which have advanced NPUs. Users will be able to control which files and folders are accessible to Copilot through the app's settings. Additionally, the Copilot home page is getting a new look and feel, which will bring together the user's latest apps, files, and conversations in one place. The rollout of these updates will be gradual, starting with the Windows Insider Program, before reaching all Insider channels through the Microsoft Store.
