Meta is making its Llama AI models available to more governments in Europe and Asia

Meta is expanding the availability of its Llama AI models to more governments, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and South Korea, as well as organizations associated with the European Union and NATO. This move follows similar steps taken by the company last year to provide access to the US government and its contractors, as well as the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The governments will not only be using Meta's off-the-shelf models but will also be able to incorporate their own data and create AI applications for specific use cases. The open-source nature of Llama makes it well-suited for government use, as it can be securely downloaded and deployed without the need to transfer sensitive data through third-party AI providers. Meta has emphasized the importance of safety concerns, suggesting that these concerns could potentially prevent the company from open-sourcing its efforts to build "real superintelligence."
