Athletic Bilbao’s Álvarez gets 10-month suspension over banned substance in hair-loss treatment
Yeray Álvarez, a centre-back for Athletic Bilbao, has received a 10-month suspension from Uefa for a positive doping test following a Europa League match against Manchester United in May. The substance detected was canrenone, which is prohibited both in and out of competition. Álvarez's breach of the rules was deemed 'non-intentional,' as the substance was found in a hair-loss treatment he was using. Despite the unintentional nature of the violation, Uefa has imposed a 10-month suspension on the 30-year-old Spanish player.
