‘Alarming rise’ in mental health stigma in England, research shows

The research conducted by the mental health charity Mind in England has revealed an alarming rise in the stigma surrounding mental health issues. According to the findings, one in seven people are now frightened of living near someone who has been mentally ill, nearly doubling the previous figure. The study also found that even if the person had recovered, one in 10 individuals would still be unwilling to live next to them. Experts warn that this trend reflects a concerning increase in the social stigma faced by those struggling with mental health problems. The research highlights the need for greater education and awareness to combat the negative perceptions and biases that persist in the community.
