Gianni Infantino keeping ‘open mind’ about moving World Cups from summer

Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, has expressed openness to the idea of moving the World Cup from the traditional summer slot. He cited Europe's hot climate during the summer months as a potential reason for the change. Additionally, Infantino mentioned that the expansion of the Club World Cup is also being explored, further complicating the football calendar. FIFA has established a working group to examine the post-2030 calendar, as the increased demands of expanded competitions have created tension. The decision to award the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia has added to this challenge, as that tournament will likely be held in the winter, similar to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Infantino suggested that the sport should be open to adapting its traditional scheduling to accommodate these changes.
