Microsoft tests agentic Copilot AI in Edge that can act on your behalf

Microsoft is currently testing a more advanced integration of its Copilot AI within its Edge browser on Windows 11. The new features include "Browser Actions," which allows Copilot to access the user's Edge profile, including login credentials, browsing history, and cookies, enabling the AI assistant to perform actions on the user's behalf. Another feature, called "Journeys," analyzes the user's browsing history over the past seven days and creates summaries and cards on the new tab page. Microsoft emphasizes that all user data is kept local and is not used for AI training or advertising purposes, but the feature requires a Microsoft account. The company also states that Copilot cannot control Windows outside the Edge browser or bypass passwords and two-factor authentication, and the user must authorize access and manually send tabs to Copilot. The release date for this deeper integration is not yet clear.
