The Tadpole makes exploring the world of Proteus much more convenient in Subnautica 2; it can dive into deeper depths, provide lighting in darker spaces, carry your equipment or a Portable Locker, and get you from one end of the map to the other much faster than the Wakemaker. There are a couple of tasks you need to complete first to obtain all the equipment you need to get to various areas, but you can unlock the Tadpole fairly early in the game if you know where to look. Before you leave the base or the Lifepod, make sure you have all of the essentials in your Inventory. Below are the items you are going to need to access all of the scannable Tadpole fragments. With as large and expansive as Subnautica 2 is for early access, you can get the Tadpole by visiting various areas, whether it’s traveling north, south, east, or west. You can wait till you get to the Tadpole Pens to collect everything you’ll need from there, plus an upgrade, but there’s also a much shorter way to get the Tadpole even earlier than that. You’ll need three scans of Tadpole parts to complete the full Blueprint and have explored as far as Camp One, so that you can either travel farther, or have NOA prompt you
