Sony raises PS5 console prices in the US

Sony has announced a price increase for its PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States, effective August 21. The standard PS5 with a disc drive will now cost $550, up from $500, while the Digital Edition will be priced at $500, up from $450. Additionally, the PS5 Pro will now cost $750, an increase from the previous $700. Sony cites the ongoing challenging economic environment as the reason for the price hikes. The company has already implemented similar price increases in the UK, Europe, and Australia earlier this year. However, Sony has stated that it has no other price changes to announce for additional markets at this time. The news comes at a time when the gaming industry is facing economic uncertainties, and price increases have become a common trend. Normally, console prices would be expected to decrease as the generation matures, but in this case, consumers will have to pay more for the PS5 and its variants.
