Xi, Modi Vow to Rebuild Ties as US Trade War Adds Pressure

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held their first meeting since US President Donald Trump returned to power. The two Asian rivals pledged to rebuild their ties and deepen cooperation as they grapple with the economic impact of the ongoing US-China trade war. The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, was seen as an effort to mend relations between the two countries. India and China have had a complex and at times strained relationship, with border disputes and trade tensions being the main points of contention. However, in the face of the economic challenges posed by the US trade war, the leaders of the two countries have recognized the need to strengthen their partnership. The meeting was described as "forward-looking" and aimed at charting a new course for India-China relations.
