Granit Xhaka closes in on move to Sunderland after £17m deal agreed with Bayer Leverkusen

Granit Xhaka, the former Arsenal midfielder, is close to joining Sunderland after the club agreed a £17 million deal with Bayer Leverkusen. The 32-year-old Swiss international has been eager to return to the Premier League, and Sunderland has agreed to pay £13 million upfront, with the remaining £4 million in add-ons. Xhaka is expected to sign a three-year contract with the newly promoted side, managed by Régis Le Bris.
