Millions of over-50s have undiagnosed sight and hearing problems, UK study suggests

The study suggests that millions of people aged 50 or over in the UK have undiagnosed sight or hearing problems. Approximately 6.7 million people have trouble seeing out of one or both eyes, while 2.4 million are visually impaired in one eye. Additionally, 20.3 million have some form of hearing loss in one or both ears, and 7.7 million cannot hear clearly with both ears. Doctors involved in the research have expressed deep concern, warning that those affected are at risk of falls, mental health issues, and social isolation. The findings highlight a significant "unmet need" for help with sight and hearing health, and suggest the importance of more regular checkups for people aged 50 and over.
