Apple is bringing back Slide Over in iPadOS 26.1
Apple is reintroducing the Slide Over multitasking feature in iPadOS 26.1 after its absence in the previous version. Slide Over allows users to quickly reveal and hide an app by sliding it in and out from the side of the screen, without permanently rearranging the workspace. While Apple removed Split View in iPadOS 26, the new windowing system can replicate a similar functionality. The redesigned Slide Over in iPadOS 26.1 includes the ability to resize windows and change aspect ratios, as well as swipe to hide them completely. However, users can now only have one active app in the Slide Over window, a downgrade from the previous ability to switch between multiple apps within the same window.
