Tesla's stripped-back standard models bring the Model 3 and Y back under $40,000
Tesla has introduced new 'standard' versions of its Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV, priced at $36,990 and $39,990, respectively. These stripped-back models bring the cost of Tesla's electric vehicles under $40,000, though still higher than the previously promised $35,000 price point. The new standard models have an EPA-estimated range of 321 miles but feature fewer features than their 'Premium' counterparts, including rear-wheel drive only and the absence of Autopilot and Autosteer driver assistance programs. Additionally, the federal tax incentive for electric vehicle purchases in the US has ended, effectively increasing the cost of the new standard models by around $2,000. Conversely, Tesla has updated the higher-end Performance version of the Model Y.
