‘He can pull something out of the bag’: Aston Villa look to Guessand for cutting edge
Aston Villa have signed Evann Guessand, a powerful forward from Nice, for £30 million. Guessand, 24, had a breakout season at Nice last year, scoring 13 goals in 40 matches and helping the team finish fourth in Ligue 1. Aston Villa struggled to create chances in their opening game of the season, a goalless draw against Newcastle, and Unai Emery may be tempted to introduce Guessand in search of a cutting edge against Brentford this weekend. Guessand's former coaches have backed him to relish the physicality of the Premier League and his ability to play out wide or up front could provide Emery with additional tactical flexibility.
