Andy Weir Wrote a New 'Project Hail Mary' Adventure, Just Not in the Way You'd Expect

Project Hail Mary excitement is still running very high, but the urge to keep that energy going has already started to filter through. There’s all that Rocky merch starting to appear, but this latest tie-in is even more exciting. Coming later this year from Maze Theory is the VR video game Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, and it’s just released a first look. The fun video features author Andy Weir, who also wrote the game’s story, and film directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Though it’s billed as a trailer, it’s really more of a reaction video. Most of the trio’s excitement revolves around Journey Among the Stars‘ opportunities to interact with Rocky, who unsurprisingly remains endearing even in VR format. But the inside of the ship looks pretty cool, too: According to IGN, players become main character Ryland Grace (played by Ryan Gosling in the movie) to navigate a new adventure that’s part of the greater Hail Mary mission: “The ship’s systems are failing. Deep space grows increasingly uncertain. Using mixed reality, the Hail Mary itself bleeds into the player’s physical environment. They reach out to diagnose the problem, improvise the fix, and push the limits
